Alluring Little Paradise of Pure Green and White Alingkakajaw Island, Taganito, Claver, Surigao del Norte

July 11, 2021 by caraga Leave a Comment

Pure green and white Alingkakajaw Island is sparkling beauty before your naked eyes when began emerging from the distance with its perfect shape of paradise island, so cute and expressive that you want to drop right away in its pristine white sand shoreline. This little paradise will take your breath hold for a moment while you scanned without winking your eyes as the boat getting nearer. The island was heavily guarded with green forest from one end to the other with its turquoise water teeming with coral reefs and fishes that surround it, like a conservation area or sanctuary as it became the remnant of the thriving Mother Natures. The sad part was surrounded by mining activities and in front were the bald mountains of Surigao.

Alingkakajaw Island is located in the town of Claver, Surigao del Norte, closer to the port of Hayanggabon of barangay Taganito. Most people traverse this area from the mainland as they jump to another tourism site, Bucas Grande Islands.

Alingkakajaw Island was a symbol of fighting little paradise behind the huge mining activities but still lots of attraction from the incoming visitors whether international or local because of its presence in the sea, perfectly untouched and unexploited little paradise. Those bypassing visitors when crossing the port of Hayanggabon en route to Bucas Grande Islands will ever make a turn to look into something beautiful and endearing that will make their day alive and thinking about something pleasant that is going to happen.

Witness the thunderous waves chasing the surfers!

Cloud 9 is simply the name of the place where giant waves started to emerge like forming 9-shaped waves. Head to Cloud 9 in the town of General Luna, Siargao Island, walk on the long wooden bridge and watch the adrenaline surfers play with the 9-shaped waves!

The wave was discovered by traveling surfers in the late 1980s. It was named after a chocolate bar of the same name (yes, Cloud 9), and was featured by American photographer John S. Callahan in the United States-based Surfer magazine in March 1993. Cloud 9 also has a reputation for being a relatively cheap destination for surfers with many cheap accommodations and restaurants and bars to choose from.

There are several other quality waves on Siargao and nearby islands, but Cloud 9 has received more publicity than any other surf spot in the Philippines. It is the only wave easily accessible without a boat, leading to overcrowding and the nickname of “Crowd 9” among surfers. Eager foreign and locally owned accommodation and tourist facilities have profited from the magazine publicity and the influx of visitors drawn by the annual Siargao International Surfing competition in September.

Siargao, particularly the municipality of General Luna, is well known as “The Surfing Capital of the Philippines” with a reputation among surfers within the Philippines and the International scene.

Location: General Luna, Surigao del Norte, Caraga Region

How to get there: From Butuan City by bus or van to Surigao City, then RORO or Pumpboat for crossing the sea to the port of Dapa, then from Dapa taking a ride by jeepney or private vehicle to Cloud 9, General Luna.

While in Dapa, hiring a jeepney or private vehicle for at least half an hour going to Cloud 9, General Luna.

Guyam Island is the closest among the other islands near the shoreline of General Luna, Siargao Island. You can appreciate its gift with its white sands beach forming a white line in your naked eye with coconut trees filled the island. This cute island became the center of attraction as you stand in the shoreline of General Luna. One drifter has to say that during low tide a group of professional divers challenges to cross the sea by walking and land on the white island. The island is surrounded by its pristine waters anyone will entice to swim the whole day.

While there, you can give sights to other gems waving near where you stand, and experience the same feeling jumping to other beautiful spots. I am referring to other neighboring treasures that you want to embark are Daku Island, Naked Island, and Corregidor Island.

Happy islands hopping!
